Improved Revenue Accounting

Better Data Collection and Analysis

Our new fare system will help us collect real-time data about revenue and ridership. We’ll then be able to use it to make faster, better decisions about service improvements.

Secure Payment Processing

To decrease the MBTA’s operational costs and minimize revenue loss, Cubic will be responsible for cash collection, which includes:

  • Retrieving cash from fare vending machines

  • Transferring and counting cash

  • Depositing cash at the bank

They will also be responsible for processing electronic payments, including credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers. This will ensure that payments are processed quickly and securely.

Reinforced Accounting and Revenue Tracking

Fare revenues will be calculated, collected and reported on by Cubic. There will be multiple checks in place to ensure the accuracy of revenue deposits, reconciliation, and accounting, including:

  • Detailed daily reporting and deposits to the MBTA

  • Monthly payment deductions tied to key performance indicators

  • Broad MBTA access to inspect and audit

  • Retroactive liability (with interest in some situations) for fare revenues found to not have been deposited
